Brooklyn men found with gun, ammo, in Inwood

Two men from Brooklyn were allegedly found with a loaded, defaced 9-millimeter handgun and two ammunition magazines inside a 2005 black four-door BMW sport utility vehicle at the intersection of Sheridan Boulevard and Davis Avenue in Inwood on Nov. 6, police said.

At 10 p.m., 4th Precinct officers saw the SUV heading west on Sheridan Boulevard without a passenger tail light and an expired registration. The officers stopped the vehicle and during the subsequent investigation found the gun and ammo. The driver, Jean Francois, 18, of East 87th Street and the passenger, Melchizedek Neverson, also 18, of Conklin Street, were arrested.

Francois is charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm and multiple traffic infractions. Neverson is charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm.

Both were arraigned on Nov. 7 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead. Francois is in custody after not posting either a $10,000 bond or $5,000 cash. The Legal Aid Society of Nassau County is representing him. Neverson is in custody after not posting a $5,000 bond or $2,500 cash. As of press time, he does not have an attorney.
