Car stolen after Lawrence accident

A two-car crash turned into an alleged vehicle theft after a stolen gray 2013 Ford Fusion rear-ended a rented blue 2019 Nissan Sentra on Central Avenue in Lawrence at 4:18 a.m., on Oct. 19, according to police.

After the Sentra was hit, the man driving that car tried to document the accident, and all the occupants got of the vehicles, police said.

The passenger of the Fusion then got into the Sentra and with the engine still running took off with car and headed east, according to police. The driver of the Fusion also headed east and then crashed into a fence at the intersection of West Broadway and Barr Avenue in Woodmere. He left the scene on foot.

The occupants of the Fusion were described as black, in their 20s and wearing black face masks.

Nassau County police urge everyone to call 911 after any vehicular accident or suspicious encounter. Police ask anyone with information on this incident or who has had a similar experience to call the 4th Squad at (516) 573-6453 or 911. All calls are confidential.
