An unspecified amount of money was stolen from the Wells Fargo Bank at 464 Central Ave. in Cedarhurst by a man with a silver semi-automatic handgun at 9:14 a.m. on Sunday, police said.
The man was described as black and in his 30s about 6-feet tall, and was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, a black face cloth, black knit gloves and sneakers, according to police.
He entered the bank and demanded money from a teller, who complied. The thief then fled south on Spruce Street toward Broadway. Five employees and one customer were in the bank at the time. There were no injuries.
Police ask that anyone with information about this incident to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-8477. All calls are confidential.
Cedarhurst officials said at Monday’s village board meeting  that they would ask the county police to increase their problem-orienting policing unit patrols from two to four during the holiday season.
