The Village of Cedarhurst made a $12,000 donation to the Five Towns Auxiliary Police Department in October. The money is targeted to enhance the department’s operation and maintain the safety and security of Cedarhurst residents, officials said.

Village Mayor Andrew Parise and Cedarhurst trustees presented the donation to the auxiliary police at village hall on Oct. 4. The volunteer force is comprised of more than 30 officers who complete a 25-week training course.

These officers supplement the work of the Fourth Precinct by serving as the eyes and ears of the community and helping to maintain orderly operation of special events such as fairs, parades and holiday happenings.

“We are the largest and fastest growing contingency in Nassau County,” said Daniel Gluck, commanding officer of the Five Towns Division. “[The Village of Cedarhurst] has always come through for us, whatever we need from them.”

The money is expected to cover the departments operating costs and aid in providing its officers with needed equipment, including radios and uniforms. Parise noted his appreciation for the auxiliary force’s work.

“The Village of Cedarhurst has an excellent relationship with the auxiliary police,” Parise said. “They do a great job and are used on numerous occasions; concert nights, directing traffic, policing the area as well as attending the Cedarhurst courts weekly.”
