Celebrating Hewlett House’s accomplishments with pizza

The success of Hewlett House and of 1 in 9: The Long Island Breast Cancer Action Coalition in Hewlett, and Geri Barish, the executive director and president, respectively, was celebrated at a gala pizza party at Grandpa Tony’s in East Rockaway on Aug. 8.

For a $40 donation guests had specialty pizza, hors d’oeuvres, wine and Grandpa Tony’s lager beer. An array of items were raffled off that also helped to raise money.

Barish was lauded for her work as a leader in the battle against the high rate of cancer on Long Island for the past 30 years. She has spearheaded changes to local, state and federal laws that resulted in new policies and helped clean up toxins in the environment.
