Celebrating Purim at DRS

Posted

Purim was celebrated at Davis Renov Stahler (DRS) Yeshiva High School for Boys in Woodmere on March 23.

Purim commemorates the salvation of the Jewish people in the ancient Persian Empire from a royal decree issued in a plot by Haman, one of the king’s ministers, to annihilate the entire Jewish nation. The holiday’s heroes are Queen Esther and her cousin Mordecai, whose story is recounted in a book known as the Megillah.

At DRS, students and other attendees dressed in costumes, danced, sang and ate a buffet dinner and listened to a reading of the Megillah, which is also called the “Book of Esther.”
