Club Central in Cedarhurst raised $35,000 for needy children in Israel through a fitness fund-raiser held on Sunday morning, Jan. 10.

The fitness club, located on 126 Spruce Street, Cedarhurst, donated 100 percent of the proceeds from the fund-raiser to benefit EMUNAH's Achuzat Sarah Children's Home in Bnei Brak, Israel. EMUNAH maintains 250 vital social welfare and educational programs throughout Israel. In addition to the fund-raiser helping those who are part of the Achuzat Sarah Children's Home, some proceeds will also be earmarked toward EMUNAH building a play room as a result of so much money being raised.

The fitness fund-raiser featured a kickboxing and core class consisting of aerobic exercise and ended with intensive ab sculpting. The class was taught by Club Central personal trainer Inna Koppel, who decided to conduct the fitness fund-raiser in memory of her late mother, Sheila Roit.

"Club Central would like to thank all the members for their support,” said Eric Roberts, who co-owns the gym with his brother, Skye. “We would like to also thank all those members from other local gyms who also participated in this extremely challenging class and put their gym rivalry aside for a good cause and donated as well.”

Roberts said he hopes the fitness fund-raiser to benefit EMUNAH can become an annual event. He added that the fund-raiser was just another example of Club Central responding to the needs of the local community. Some features the gym has added include offering a women's only gym and fitness class schedule, a coed gym and free childcare.

Roberts is offering a 20% discount to join.
