A Cedarhurst man was arrested by police and charged with assault following an April 5 verbal dispute with his six-month pregnant girlfriend at their apartment.

According to Fourth Squad detectives, the defendant, William Sease, 31, of 487 Fifth Ave. in Cedarhurst, began pushing and punching his girlfriend in the face causing profuse bleeding. The victim fled the apartment to her vehicle with Sease following her. The victim entered her vehicle with Sease believing he was going to take her to the hospital and he proceeded arguing with his girlfriend and threatening her, according to detectives. Fearing for her safety the victim jumped out of the moving vehicle and lay on the street screaming for help.

An off-duty police officer observed the female on the ground and exited his vehicle to render aid to the victim. She required immediate medical attention and was transported to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside where she was treated for multiple fractures in her nose, substantial swelling to her scalp, and a fractured heel.

Sease was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree assault, first-degree counts of reckless endangerment and coercion and third-degree tampering with a witness. He was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on April 6.
