Children and adults celebrated over food, music and entertainment at the Chabad of the Five Towns’ 19th annual Simchat Beit Hashoeva festival at Andrew J. Parise Cedarhurst Park last Sunday.

“Sukkot is a great time for the community to gather together with friends and neighbors and celebrate a beautiful holiday,” said Cedarhurst resident Jeff Leb.

Simchat Beit Hashoeva is a commemoration of the ancient tradition of pouring wine and oil on the altar in the Holy Temple during Sukkot, when sacrifices were offered. In contemporary times, it is also a fulfillment of the mitzvah (good deed) to rejoice during Sukkot.

Headliner entertainer “Juggling Josh” wowed the crowd with his assortment of tricks, including juggling fire. “Juggling Josh was awesome because his tricks were very cool and dangerous,” said Moshe Kamin, 10, of Cedarhurst.

Participants also danced to the beat of Azamra DJ, and Gourmet Glatt Emporium provided the refreshments.
