DeNapoli invited to try out for national lacrosse team

Hewlett native plays for Rochester Rattlers

Hewlett native Steven DeNapoli, who currently plays for the Major League Lacrosse team Rochester Rattlers, was invited to try out for Team USA that will play in the 2014 world championship in Denver. Tryouts are at Goucher College in Baltimore on Labor Day weekend.

DeNapoli, a 2007 graduate of Hewlett High School, played on the Bulldogs Nassau County championship squad and received All-American honors. A four-year starter at Hofstra University, he was the Colonial Athletic Association rookie of the year in 2008 and was a huge part of teams that played for the CAA championships in 2009 and ’11 and made the NCAA tournament.

The son of Frank and Marina DeNapoli, he comes from a lacrosse-playing family as his brother, Dominick, is the assistant men’s coach at St. John’s University and sister Valerie will attend Binghamton in the fall and play for the Bearcats’ women’s team.
