Earning academic honors, getting the college degrees

Manmeet Nijjer of Cedarhurst, Jacqueline Pollina from Hewlett Emma Gartenstein of Hewlett Harbor and Michaela Asch and Evelyn Gitsin, both of Woodmere, were named to the Hofstra University spring semester Provost’s List that recognizes students who have earned a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.

Abby Lamdan of Hewlett, Samuel Tantleff from North Woodmere and Jessica Silberger of Woodmere made the spring semester dean’s list at the University of Delaware. To be eligible for this honor, students must be enrolled full-time and earn a GPA of 3.33 or higher on a 4.0 scale for the semester.

Hewlett resident Shana Farkas earned a Bachelor of Science in industrial design from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. Farkas was among the roughly 3,700 undergraduate and graduate students who received degrees during Georgia Tech’s 255th commencement on May 4-5 at the McCamish Pavilion.


At Tufts University’s graduation on May 20, Elyse Cooper of Woodmere earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the School of Engineering and Seth Moreida from Hewlett received a bachelor’s degree in international relations, summa cum laude, from the School of Arts and Sciences.

SUNY Canton
announced its dean’s list for the spring semester and Veronica Kanhai, of Inwood, who is majoring in health care management made the cut. Full-time students who have a GPA of 3.25 to 3.74 earn this distinction.

“On behalf of the college’s deans, I’d like to recognize Veronica for outstanding academic achievement,” said SUNY Canton Provost Douglas Scheidt. “Your drive for success has been recognized, and we encourage you to continue your efforts.”

Woodmere resident Arthur Cohen graduated from The Marshall–Wythe School of Law at the College of William & Mary with a law degree.
