Woodmere resident Elliot Steinmetz was an assistant coach for the U.S. 18 and under men’s basketball team that won a gold medal at the 19th Maccabiah Games held in Israel this summer.

Steinmetz, an attorney for Arbor Realty Trust in Uniondale and the boys basketball coach at North Shore Hebrew Academy, was part of a U.S. squad that dominated the tournament and finished with a perfect record after winning nine games during the three-week competition. Many of the players will be playing Division I NCAA this coming season.

“The experience coaching at the World Maccabiah Games is one of the most rewarding I have ever had, both from a basketball and cultural perspective,” he said.
