Entertaining and educating through the air

To supplement the social and emotional component of its curriculum, the Number Five School PTA sponsored a visit to the Cedarhurst school on Monday by the Pennsylvania-based Dialed Action Sports Team.

Comprised of emcee Ryan Davis and bicycle riders Zane Bradley and Brian Cunningham, the sports team stimulated the first through fourth grade students with an assortment of tricks and imparted their message about coordination, bike safety and respect to others, along with addressing bullying.

Davis reminded the students that Bradley and Cunningham don’t perform the tricks without practicing them many times and wearing protective gear such as shin and knee pads, gloves and helmets.

Having a goal is good, having multiple goals is better, Davis said, as he told the children he earned a collage degree and had his fun riding bikes. In addition he reviewed advice about bullying: Recognize a bully — a person who hurts someone; Refuse to be a bully — celebrate the differences in people and React to bullying — yes, I am different.
