EPA honors local stores and restaurants

Cedarhurst-based Rock and Wrap It Up! food donors were recognized by the federal Environmental Protection Agency on Jan. 12 for their help in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and aiding in decreasing hunger with the 2017 Sustainable Material Management awards.

The Bagelry, Crawford’s, Island Bagel Bar, Chipotle, Panera Bread, Costco and 18 other business were recognized by EPA Region 2’s John Filippelli, director of the clean air and sustainability division during an event at the offices in lower Manhattan on Jan. 12.

RWU CEO Syd Mandelbaum delivered the keynote address and highlighted the latest news, including the State Food Donation Act and the Whole Earth Calculator app. RWU helps coordinate food recovery nationally and is an award-winning anti-poverty think tank.
