Far Rockaway woman arrested for Inwood assault

Nassau County police arrested a Far Rockaway woman for assaulting a police officer and marijuana possession after being called to what was described by police as a “large fight” outside of 385 Bayview Ave. in Inwood at 6:17 a.m. on Dec. 24.

Police officers broke up the fight and during the subsequent investigation Naomi Merle, 22, of Redfern Avenue, Far Rockaway, began acting erratically, screaming and threatening officers, according to police.

As police tried to arrest Merle she punched and kicked an officer, hitting her face and stomach. Merle was arrested and taken to a local hospital for treatment. She was also found to be in possession of a substance believed to be marijuana, police said. The police officer was also taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Merle is charged with assault second-degree, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration second-degree and unlawful possession of marijuana. She was arraigned on Dec. 25. The Legal Aid Society of Nassau County is representing Merle. Her next court date was Dec. 27.
