Fatal house fire in Woodmere

An early morning house fire at 1016 Dartmouth Place in Woodmere on resulted in the death of the home's lone occupant on Thursday.

Sidney Bienenfeld, 86, was identified as the victim of the fire, but the cause of death is still being investigated by the Nassau County Medical Examiner.

Hewlett volunteer firefighters responded to the 4:23 a.m. call, along Inwood, Lawrence-Cedarhurst, Valley Stream, East Rockaway and Lynbrook firefighters.

Fifty firefighters fought the fire for two hours. The fire that severely damaged the house was deemed under control and its cause is currently under investigation

One Hewlett firefighter suffered shortness of breath and was treated and released from a local hospital, according to Nassau County police.
