Police officers responding to a burglar alarm shortly before midnight on Dec. 23, discovered that the La Terrazza Restaurant at 142 Spruce Street in Cedarhurst was on fire and in turn notified the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department.

Thirty firefighters and six trucks from four departments responded to the blaze. The firefighters forced open the locked restaurant and were met by heavy smoke. The fire was in the area by the register.

Officials on the scene said the sprinkler system was activated and contained the fire in the area where it originated. An adjacent building that houses the Weisman Law Group suffered water and smoke damage.

No injuries were reported. The fire appeared to be caused by an electrical problem, officials said.

The Hewlett, Inwood and Woodmere fire departments also responded to the scene. The Nassau County Fire Marshall and county Health Department are investigating.
