Fire damages Margaret Avenue house in Lawrence

A fire that began in the garage damaged the house it’s attached to at 54 Margaret Ave. in Lawrence on Friday, Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department officials said.

At 5:02 p.m., 3O firefighters from the LCFD, assisted by the Hewlett, Inwood and Woodmere fire departments responded. “Firefighters performed an aggressive attack and quickly extinguished the blaze,” said LCFED Chief Joseph Sperber.

There were no injuries and the firefighters completed their work in 45 minutes, Sperber added. The garage suffered structural damage, but there was some water damage on the first floor of the house and smoke throughout the home. Officials ruled the fire not suspicious.
