Welder suffers chest pains

A fire caused by workers using welding equipment in the ceiling of a vacant store at 444 Central Ave. in Cedarhurst was extinguished by the Lawrence-Cedarhurst, Hewlett, Inwood and Woodmere fire departments shortly after 11 a.m. on March 18, LCFD fire officials said.
The initial alarm was received by the LCFD at 10:51 a.m. for a fire at the Upper Crust Pizza at 442 Central Ave. Firefighters discovered the blaze in the ceiling of the empty space immediately adjacent to the restaurant, which is being renovated for expansion of the Upper Crust.
One worker suffered chest pains and was taken to a local hospital, according to officials at the scene.
