A full sized school bus carrying 33 children under 10-years-old to camp and a car collided at the intersection of Central Avenue and Woodmere Boulevard in Woodmere at about 8:45 a.m. on Aug. 1.

Firefighters and emergency medical personal from the Woodmere, Hewlett, Lawrence-Cedarhurst and Valley Stream fire departments treated the children on the bus and four of them were taken to local hospitals, said Woodmere Fire Chief Richard Jankosky.

The driver of the car was treated at the scene for a leg injury, but declined to be taken to a hospital, Jankosky said.

Parents of some of the children arrived at the scene to pick up their children and approximately 18 children were released to the camp administrator, Jankosky said.

Nassau County police are investigating the accident.
