Five Lawrence streets to be repaired

Posted

Lawrence drivers will soon encounter smoother rides on several local streets. Holly Lane and Herrick Drive will be resurfaced with new asphalt this month, and Ivy Lane, part of Washington Avenue, and Hollywood Crossing will undergo work in late September.

Holly Lane will also be receiving two catch basins and a drywell to manage water runoff. Herrick Drive can expect the same treatment, and may get new sloped cuts in the curbs from driveways to the street. The work was awarded on July 26 in a public bid which amounts to $198,000 for the two, according to Mayor Martin Oliner.

Ivy Lane — a circular cul-de-scac — a part of Washington Avenue and Hollywood Crossing will be paved and outfitted with additional sewers. Bids from contractors to perform the work are being accepted by the village through 11 a.m. on Aug. 17.

Contractors wishing to be awarded the bid must submit a signed, written proposal by that time, and a bond check of 5 percent of the gross amount of their bid. Specific instructions can be obtained by contacting the Village Hall.

"The lowest qualified bidder wins the job," said Oliner, who said an exception to that axiom could be made in "extenuating circumstances." He declined to give a price range to be met by parties making bids for the roadwork so as not to compromise the inflow of competitive offers.
