Gerard Romaine, from Lawrence, and Matthew Bakshi, of Woodmere, both earned certificates of achievement for completing the maintenance course and the stock course, respectively that is part of Nassau BOCES Intensive Support Program.

Romaine And Bakshi received the certificates from administrators of the Adult Education Program during a Covid-safe ceremony in March.

Housed in the Joseph M. Barry Career and Technical Education Center in Westbury, the Intensive Support Program aims to prepare students for the work world in their chosen industries.

Courses blend in-depth training in essential trades such as automotive technology, building maintenance, food service, pet care, stock and inventory and direct care. There is also a component on learning how to apply for employment. Job placement specialists work with students throughout the semester to arrange the proper job placement and provide support.

“Perseverance is the word that comes to mind when I think of this cohort of graduates,” Adult Education Assistant Principal Brad Slepian said in a news release. “This group started their studies right before Covid shut down the Island. Yet they all found their way back, completed their respective courses and are career-ready for jobs in their selected field. We’re really proud of them.”
