Attempted robberies

CEDARHURST – Two men allegedly threw a chunk of concrete through the front glass door of the Radio Shack at 525 Central Ave. at 4:47 a.m. on Aug. 12, according to police.

They entered the store, but left shortly thereafter without any proceeds, police said.

One man is described as having a medium build, wearing a blue hooded shirt, dark gray or black pants and white gloves. The other man has a stocky build, and was wearing a dark knit cap, dark sweatshirt, dark pants and white gloves. Both were last seen heading east on Central Avenue on foot.

WOODMERE – An unknown man tried to rob two young woman walking on Greenfield Road in the area of Eastwood Road at 3:40 a.m. on Aug. 10 at gun point, according to police.

The women, 18 and 20, were approached by the man who displayed a silver handgun and demanded the purse of the 20-year-old woman, police said. She refused and he then pushed both women to the ground.

Told by the 20-year-old that she had called 911, the alleged assailant fled on foot and was seen getting into the passenger side of a black sports utility vehicle that headed towards Peninsula Boulevard, according to police.

No injuries were reported and no property was taken from the women.

The man is described as black, 5-feet, 10-inches tall, weighing approximately 155 pounds and wearing all black clothing.

Arrests

FAR ROCKAWAY - Two 4th Precinct police officers were injured as they apprehended a Far Rockaway man for allegedly stealing items from vehicles on Lord Avenue in Lawrence on Aug. 8, police said.

The officers responded to a call concerning a man looking into vehicles in the area of Lord Avenue. Tyrone Hayward, 25, of Seagirt Avenue, was found walking south on Central Avenue and the Nassau Expressway around 1:30 a.m.

It was discovered that Hayward had two GPS devices, a Bluetooth speaker and a bottle containing Methadone pills that didn’t belong to him, according to police.

As the officers attempted to arrest Hayward, he fled on foot and headed south across the Expressway. Hayward was caught with the help of several officers in front of 833 Central Ave. in Far Rockaway.

Police said that he “flailed his arm in a violent manner” that struck two officers enough to injure them. One suffered a strained left wrist and another officer injured his right toe. Both were treated at a local hospital, then released.

Hayward is charged with two counts of assault-second degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest. He was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Aug. 8.

LAWRENCE - Peter M. Fishburne, 49, of Pembroke Pines, Fla., was arrested for shoplifting at a warehouse store on Rockaway Turnpike at 11:10 a.m. on Aug. 2, police said.

Petit larceny

INWOOD - A camcorder, sunglasses, duffle bag and headsets were removed from a vehicle parked on Meadow Road between 10 p.m. on July 30 and 5 a.m. on July 31, according to police.

INWOOD - Between 7 p.m. on August 1 and 7 a.m. on Aug. 2, a GPS was removed from a vehicle parked on Meadow Road, authorities said.

Criminal mischief

WOODMERE - The passenger side door of a vehicle was scratched while it was parked on Kearny Drive in Woodmere between 7 p.m. on August 2 and 8 a.m. on Aug. 3, officials said.

WOODMERE - The rear windshield of a vehicle parked on Harvard Road was broken between 5 p.m. on Aug. 1 and 11 a.m. on Aug. 2, police said.
