Five Towns exchange students visit Israel, then Germany

Five Hewlett High School students and one from Lawrence Woodmere Academy are part of a group that will visit Israel, then go to Germany to stay with German students who visited the Five Towns in March.

The student exchange program is sponsored by the National American Board of Rabbis, the German Foreign Ministry, Israel Consulate in NY World Jewish Congress in partnership with Temple Israel in Lawrence.

Students and chaperones left on Aug. 16 and are expected to return on Aug. 26. In between they will the Yad VaShem Holocaust Memorial, visit the Jewish Quarter and Western Wall, the Dead Sea area and Masada in Israel.

In addition to living with their host families in Berlin, the students will visit a

concentration camp, take part in discussions and classes, view “topography of terror” exhibition, take a boat trip, go shopping and attend synagogue.
