Shortly after midnight the Inwood Fire Department and neighboring departments received a call of a house fire with people trapped at 274 Morris Ave., in Inwood, at the intersection of Doughty Boulevard and Mervin Street on July 8.

The blaze was in the attic of the two and a half story home. All the occupants made it out of the home safely, Inwood officials said. The fire was brought under control within 40 minutes of the 12:38 a.m. call. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Later that same day, the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department aided by Hewlett, Inwood and the City of Long Beach Fire Department extinguished a blaze in a Harrison Street house in Lawrence. That call was received at 7:25 p.m.

Fire officials said the homeowners saw smoke coming from the crawl space. The fire cause extensive damage to the house and one firefighter suffered what was described as a minor cut to his hand. He was taken to a local hospital, treated and released.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal called the fire “non-suspicious at this time,” in a news release, but the investigation is continuing.
