Waiting for H-W to fix dismissal issues

To the Editor:

I read the article “Driving through the dismissal traffic” (Dec. 12-18), about traffic difficulties at dismissal at the Franklin Early Childhood Center in Hewlett with, obviously, great interest.

I found it interesting that the Hewlett-Woodmere School District blames the police for the problem when their inaction has not only contributed to it, but exacerbates the problem.

Feb. 12 was a case in point. A lady parked in my driveway and refused to get off her cell phone for five minutes until I screamed at her at the top of my lungs.

The district apparently had a public meeting about the dismissal traffic issue. I’m still waiting for a notice or invitation. They know about my neighbors and me and apparently are not interested in our problem.

Should we withhold our school taxes until they treat us as valuable?

By the way, school buses come down the street too, and frequently head the wrong way on Henrietta Place where there is a Do Not Enter sign on Henrietta Place and Franklin Avenue (as there are two 20 mph signs on Serena Road, that I petitioned for).

As for the ambulances that drive on Serena Road, I am also an Able-Ride passenger, and they frequently encounter the same issue at this hour of the school day.

It’s been six long years and counting.
