An amazing year

To the Editor:
Rock and Wrap It Up! had an amazing year in 2015 as the Cedarhurst-based nonprofit and anti-poverty think tank added new sports teams, film and TV productions, colleges and other schools, hospitals and hotels to its ever expanding list of unused food donors.
Unused food was collected from Major League Baseball’s All-Star events and the World Series, as the Mets and Royals are two of the sports teams that donate food.

RWU launched a another anti-poverty program, Mardi Bra and Hannah’s Project, that provided feminine hygiene products to thousands of women and young girls in New York City and Los Angeles. On Feb. 6, the project will have its own website.
In addition, 33 school programs were launched in North Carolina and 17 in Tennessee, based on our Whole Earth Calculator environmental curriculum. RWU is working with the White House science adviser on new lesson plans.
Jesse Plotkin came aboard as an asset manager in Boulder, Colo., and Jocelyn Schreier joined RWU as a research analyst in New York City.
Dozens of college and job reference letters were written for our volunteers.
The organization partnered with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Environmental Protection Agency to expand their food recovery challenge programs.
I spoke at nine national conferences, including ones in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, San Francisco and Dallas, and was the keynote speaker at the National School Board meeting and the Green Sports Alliance.
We have so much more to do. Donations can be made at rockandwrapitup.org.
PayPal will add 1 percent to each contribution. Checks can be sent to Rock and Wrap It Up!, 405 Oceanpoint Ave., Cedarhurst, NY 11516.
