Five Towns special district commissioner results are in

Contested races in Woodmere, North Lawrence and Meadowmere Park

Seven special districts, six for fire and one for water reclamation, held elections for commissioners on Dec. 8. Three of the races were contested.

Woodmere Fire District

In one of three contested commissioner's races in the Five Towns, incumbent Commissioner Israel Max was re-elected to his second five-year term by defeating challenger Darren Moritz by a vote total of 205 to 85. Max was first elected commissioner in 2015 and has also served in the fire department as a volunteer firefighter for roughly the past decade.

Meadowmere Park Fire District

Andrew Schmitt Jr. defeated Eddie Samuelson 39 to 28. There was one write-in vote. Schmitt Jr. is a lifelong Meadowmere Park resident who previously served as a commissioner from 2005 to 2010. Samuelson is also a former commissioner. Schmitt Jr. is filling the commissioners position left by his father, Andrew Schmitt Sr., who stepped down from the board. 

North Lawrence Fire District

In a contested race, Far Rockaway native Eliezer “Eli” Gefen was elected for his first five-year term over Miguel A. Martinez by a vote total of 47 to 10. The open position was made by incumbent Commissioner Louis Spinelli stepping down from the board.

Inwood Fire District

Incumbent Commissioner Joseph Reda was re-elected for his first full term receiving all 25 votes cast. Reda became commissioner in 2019 filling an unexpired term.

Hewlett Bay Fire District

Mark Lorberbaum ran uncontested and was re-elected to his third full term. The amount of votes cast has not yet been shared. 

Atlantic Beach Fire District

Incumbent Commissioner John R. Faulhaber was re-elected for his sixth five-year term receiving all 18 votes cast. He is one of the founding members of the Atlantic Beach Rescue Squad

Greater Atlantic Beach Water Reclamation District

Running unopposed, incumbent Commissioner Anthony Licatesi was re-elected to another three-year term garnering 24 votes.
