Youth board members from the Woodmere-based Five Towns Community Chest hosted a flapjack fundraiser at Applebee’s restaurant on Rockaway Turnpike in Lawrence on May 19 to benefit the children of the Early Learning Center in Inwood.

Twenty Community Chest youth board members served flapjacks to more than 150 Early Learning Center children and their families. The youth board members were given complete control of the restaurant from 8 to 10 a.m. and acted as the hostesses, greeters, waiters, waitresses and bus boys.

According to Bob Block, the Community Chest director, enough money was raised to purchase two three-person bicycles for the Early Learning Center.
