The Fourth Precinct building on Broadway in Hewlett is expected to be replaced as $12 million from the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery has been allocated to construct a two-story, 25,000-square-foot structure on the same site, county officials said.
Hurricane Sandy damaged the station house that was closed due to the mandatory evacuation ordered by County Executive Ed Mangano prior to the storm. Sandy ripped off 30 feet of shingles on the roof and two booths outside the precinct building were damaged by wind and debris.
In addition to the Hewlett project, the county will also receive $15.6 million to replace the existing Eighth Precinct in Bethpage with a new three-story, 30,600-square-foot building.
