Fun times enjoyed on Senior Weekend

Posted

When anyone pictures a large group of seniors traveling somewhere, even with chaperones, it’s easy to automatically assume that mayhem will occur. But from Jan. 16-18 at Lawrence High School’s Senior Weekend, we were all on our best behavior. For the most part.
As soon as we reached the Honors Haven Resort and Spa that Friday afternoon and checked into our rooms, seniors darted off in 100 different directions to explore the snow-covered terrain.
My friends and I found an ice patch and decided to take off running and slide across the slippery area, using our boots as skates. We ended up having one of the most fun experiences of our lives with only a few collisions, mild aches in our sides from laughing so much, and very minor bruises. Was it totally worth it? Absolutely.
After that, we hit the tubing hill. It turns out that going down a course while gaining speed with the risk that you can ride into the frozen pond behind you is pretty awesome. It was so great that groups of us continually visited the tubing hill over the three days we were there. We also had the chance to enjoy a karaoke session the first night, with an ensemble of Lawrence teachers belting out “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys. If you’re interested in viewing that video, I’m sure it’s circulating on the Internet by now. Later that night, Lawrence and other schools attended a dance held at the resort.
The second day offered the same activities as the first day but with added bonuses. One of my favorite activities was going on a nature hike with my classmates. On our little adventure we saw a spectacular frozen waterfall, which was a standout among the other beautiful sites. The senior boys only had to be told multiple times that stomping on the frozen ice was considered a no-no. Another highlight of that day was watching our Long Island Championship football team play a rousing game of football with a little boy who insisted on joining in on the fun.
On Saturday night, there was a giant campfire and everyone enjoyed roasted marshmallows. All these amazing activities made it hard to leave the next day and return to real life where we had research papers to write and midterms to study for.
However, the activities were not my favorite part of the trip. My favorite part was spending time with my classmates-with the friends that I had, the friends that I reconnected with over the weekend, and the new friends who I wish I had talked to more during my time at Lawrence High. One of the best aspects of the trip was that everyone kept their hotel doors open, allowing their classmates to come and visit freely. Our senior weekend wasn’t just about having fun; it was about coming together as a class and making the most out of the time we have left together.
