Getting ready to respond in an emergency

Disaster drill training at North Woodmere Park

Posted

North Woodmere Park played host to the annual CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training exercise on Sept. 22, that included Nassau, Suffolk and New York City Office of Emergency Management, along with local fire, police and medical emergency response teams.

Conducted in preparation for a major storm or other emergency, the drill scenario this year tested the response to a simulated tornado created by severe thunderstorms.

The 10 training stations included an incident command post, a setup area for volunteers, two field hazards, a smoke house, a search and rescue and victim removal area, triage, two medical treatment areas and disaster psychology.
