Taking over the space that once housed Saverio’s, Dumont’s is a place to indulge on all sorts of Asian delights, sushi, sashimi and seafood. Only open several months, it’s a work in progress that promises enhancements that will cater to all seasons, yearnings and tastes.
Owner, Danny Liu, has more than 25 years experience in the restaurant industry across New York and in Seattle, WA. Last August, after renovating the site of the former restaurant, he opened Dumont’s Asian & Sushi Buffet. The new venue is sleek, modern and pristine. Booths and tables are adjacent to a lengthy buffet that displays salads, sashimi, sushi, seafood, steamy Asian appetizers and entrees, and a wide variety of desserts.
Soups and drinks are delivered to the table by your server. Guests can visit the buffet as often as the like. Everything you need for the Asian experience is on hand — chopsticks, fresh ginger, wasabi, eel sauce, spicy mayo, and soy sauce. One price per person includes all but beverages. Offered are soft drinks, juices, beer, wine and hot or cold sake.
Sushi aficionados will really appreciate Dumont’s for quality, freshness and value. Slices of sashimi (raw tuna, white tuna, salmon, yellow tail and others) are generous and cleanly cut. Sushi is served both in basic form and as a nice variety of specialty rolls. Our favorite was Sushi Sandwich — triangular layers of spicy tuna, crabmeat salad, and avocado in soybean paper. Seafood lovers will go for several styles of mussels, fresh King Crab Legs, shrimp in numerous forms, both hot and cold. Among the hot dishes are Chicken with Pineapple, Honey BBQ Ribs, Spring Rolls, Dumplings, tender Beef with Mushroom, and lots more. This is a place where you can try everything … so take advantage!
Desserts abound. There are tiny pastries and brownies, rice pudding, and plenty of fresh cut fruit. Ice cream is pre-scooped into Asian dessert spoons — a nice, neat way to help yourself.
Lunch (Monday through Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.) is $12.95, dinner (Monday through Thursday 5 to 9:30 p.m.) is $20.95, and weekend dinner (Friday, Saturday 5 to 10 p.m. and all day on Sunday) is $22.95. Take-out and delivery menus are being developed and will soon be mailed out to the community.
