Fair HAFTR girls, mothers revel in Shabbat

HAFTR fifth grade girls and their mothers learned about Shabbat traditions at a post-Shabbat get together last month.

Right after Shabbat, Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway fifth grade girls and their mothers joined together for a post-Shabbat meal and discussed the theme of the traditional candle lighting for Shabbat with teacher Bashi Kutai, who led learning on the laws and customs of lighting the Shabbat candles.
The Torah commentary, class video, decorative centerpieces, a giveaway, and the table settings, added to the gathering. A glow in the dark dance celebration with Lauren Balsam ignited the spirit of Hanukkah.
Mothers and daughters danced in the dark, lit up by their glow in the dark accessories. The HAFTR PTA, supported by several families, sponsored the event.
