Halloween is Tuesday, Oct. 31 and it’s time for youthful monsters, goblin, witches and a host of costumed youngsters to spirit themselves from house-to-house and/or door-to-door and collect tasty treats.

Evolving from the ancient Celtic holiday of Samhain, the Celts marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. They also believed that the change of seasons was a bridge to the world of the dead, according to many historians. Through the centuries, Halloween transitioned from a pagan ritual to a day of parties, costumes, jack-o-lanterns and sweet treats for children and adults.

Longtime Inwood resident Warren Martz has been decorating his house at 202 Wanser Ave. in Inwood since 2006, to show his appreciation for frightening fun.
