Hanukkah celebrated in Cedarhurst

Chabsd of the Five Towns hosts menorah lighting in the park

Cedarhurst-based Chabad of the Five Towns lit the grand menorah in Andrew J. Parise Cedarhurst Park last Sunday to begin the holiday of Hanukkah; an eight-day celebration of when the ancient Hebrews, led by the Maccabees, defeated the Syrian-Greeks in battle and reclaimed the Holy Temple.

A one day’s supply of oil was found to light the menorah, but the miracle was that it lasted for eight days.

Chabad’s celebration of the Festival of Lights included latkes, music, dancing and gifts for the children. The menorah will be lit every night at 6 p.m. except for Friday when it be lit at 3:30 p.m. due to Shabbos.
