Hewlett firefighters rescue trapped woman

The “Jaws of Life” were used to help rescue a 19-year-old woman who was trapped in her Nissan Altima was traveling east and apparently lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree in front of 1159 Broadway in Hewlett on Sunday at 3:10 a.m., according to officials.

Trapped in the car for 20 minutes, the woman, who was the only person in the vehicle, was removed by Hewlett firefighters, She was then taken by Nassau County Police ambulance to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside with serious injuries. Broadway was closed in both directions between Franklin Avenue and Trinity Place until the vehicle was removed from the scene.
