Hewlett HS junior lauded for service

Hewlett High School junior Matthew Tinkelman has been honored for his exemplary volunteer service with a state-level Certificate of Excellence from the 2010 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program.

Tinkelman was nominated for this award by Hewlett High School Principal Thomas J. Russo. where he is a student. Presented annually by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards honor young people across America for outstanding community service activities. Tinkelman also has received a President’s Volunteer Service Award, which recognizes Americans who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country. He earned his awards by spending a year and a half organizing the Hewlett High "Friend-Raiser," which took place on Oct. 18 and featured musical performances and art exhibitions from various schools and organizations around the Five Towns.
