Steve Anchin of Hewlett and a member of the Five Towns Democratic Club announced that he is a candidate for the position of Hempstead town clerk. The Nassau County Democratic Nominating Convention is on May 24. If nominated, Anchin would run against incumbent Town Clerk Mark Bonilla a Republican.

Anchin, a Five Towns resident for more than 50 years, served two terms as president of the community’s Democratic Club and is currently the zone leader in Hewlett.

Currently a real estate agent in the Five Towns, Anchin was previously an English teacher in the New York City school system in the 1960s, then served as an assistant to the supervisor of the Town of Hempstead.

“ I am ready to take up this challenge, take on the responsibility of public office and run for election as part of a Democratic team that promises to set a new path to the future,” Anchin said.

He also was a deputy director of Marketing for Nassau County Off Track Betting and developed a new in-house marketing department that Anchin said saved the county “hundreds of thousands of dollars” and reducing taxpayer costs.

“I will implement the latest 21st century technologies as well as my extensive experience as a businessman to make the town clerk’s office as a cost effective, up to date and tax serving enterprise, free of patronage, redundant programs and personnel,” he said.
