Homeless man arrested for alleged Wells Fargo bank robbery in Cedarhurst

Michael Shawky-Mikhail allegedly entered the Wells Fargo bank at 464 Central Ave. in Cedarhurst at 11:55 a.m. on June 5, and handed a teller a note that demanded money, according to Nassau County Robbery Squad detectives.

Shawky-Mikhail, 33, who police said is homeless, was given an unspecified amount of money and then left the bank on foot, according to police. No one was injured.

The robbery and a description of Shawky-Mikhail was reported. A brief time later a 4th Precinct police officer found him outside of 331 Rockaway Tpke., a Chipotle Mexican Grill in North Lawrence, and arrested him.

He is charged with robbery third-degree and will be arraigned on June 6, at First District Court in Hempstead.
