More than 50 teams divided into five divisions, including a wheel chair division participated in the 25th annual Rock and Wrap It Up! Sid Tanebaum Basketball Tournament sponsored by the Nassau County Department of Parks and Recreation and the Sid Tanenbaum Foundation at North Woodmere Park last Sunday.

Cedarhurst-based Rock and Wrap it Up! is run by Syd Mandelbaum and collects unused items from school, sporting events and rock concerts and donates them to charities.

The basketball courts at North Woodmere are named in honor of the late Tanenbaum, an All-American at New York University, who played for the New York Knicks.

Since 1987, the Sid Tanenbaum Foundation has awarded more than $27,000 in scholarships to students from four high schools; Lawrence, Hewlett, the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Lawrence Woodmere Academy. Student volunteers from Lawrence and Hewlett high schools help in running the tournament.
