A Thursday morning fire in a house at 670 Zola Street in

Woodmere was brought under control in 20 minutes of firefighters responding to the scene and there were no injuries, said Woodmere Chief Richard Jankosky.

The fire call came in at 11:26 a.m., and firefighters were on the scene a few minutes later, Jankosky said. First Assistant Chief Leonard Cherson was one of the first responders and found the fire in a second floor room, about 10' x 10' in size, Jankosky said.

With assistance from the Hewlett and Lawrence-Cedarhurst fire departments, the fire was extinguished, but caused damage to the upstairs area.

"It was a good stop for the firefighters," Jankosky said.

Two residents were home at the time of the fire, which Jankosky said appeared electrical in nature, but the cause was not officially determined by the Nassau County Fire Marshals office.

Lynbrook and Valley Stream also provided mutual aid during the fire.
