Illegal alcohol sales in Five Towns

Hewlett and Cedarhurst stores targeted

Four people, including two in the Five Towns, were arrested for selling alcohol and/or cigarettes to a minor on Aug. 15., police said.

The arrests are part of law enforcement’s “Project 21” initiative. With the help of an underage individual police in the 4th Precinct arrested Xuemei Yu, 49, of Corona, Queens for allegedly selling alcohol to a minor at John Q Wine & Liquor at 1743 Peninsula Blvd. in Hewlett and Mohammad Adam, 66, of Jamaica, Queens for allegedly selling alcohol to a minor at Pick Wick at 570 Peninsula Blvd. in Cedarhurst.

In Freeport, Andrew Pena, 18 of West Side Avenue in Freeport allegedly sold cigarettes to a minor at the Infante Deli Grocery at 114 Long Beach Road in Island Park and Serhat Unver, 28, of Hudson Street in Long Beach, allegedly sold alcohol to a minor at the USA gas station at 3880 Long Beach Road in Long Beach.

Yu, Unver and Adam are charged with prohibited sale of an alcoholic beverage and unlawfully dealing with a child. Pena is uncharged with unlawfully dealing with a child.

All four were released on appearance tickets and are due back at First District Court in Hempstead on Aug. 29.
