More than $2,200 was raised for the 2019 Senior Night, the after-prom party at Dave and Busters, at the first-ever Hewlett-Woodmere public schools staff volleyball championship. The event attracted roughly 500 people who saw the Hewlett High School staff go undefeated and capture first place on Feb. 28. Michelle Morgan, a member of the Hewlett High PTA Senior Committee, spearheaded the event.

The tournament included a team of teachers and staff from each school in the Hewlett-Woodmere district: Hewlett High, Woodmere Middle School, Hewlett and Ogden elementary schools and the Franklin Early Childhood Center.

The teams competed for first place, a trophy and the title “Bulldog Volleyball Champs.” The high school squad dominated throughout the tournament, despite the lack of subs, in large part because of the stellar performances of Lance Shiflet and Monique Ciccarelli.

Woodmere Middle School, led by Principal Al Bauer and Nicole Emerson, had a strong showing and finished second. The Ogden team, all decked out in green, placed third. Both the Hewlett Elementary and FECC teams played hard. Support appeared strongest for the Hewlett and Ogden elementary squads.
