Inwood commemorates Memorial Day

Posted

Memorial Day was celebrated in Inwood last Sunday as the community held its annual parade that stepped off at Bayview Avenue and Nassau Expressway then made its way down Doughty Boulevard to the John J. Oliveri V.F.W. Post 1582 headquarters.

Following the parade, a memorial service to honor all the soldiers who have served in the military was held at post headquarters. Post Commander Joe Squitieri, Acting Post Chaplain Luke Magliaro and Inwood Fire Department Chief Richard Magliaro led the service to remember those military heroes who made the supreme sacrifice in defense of our nation.

Louis DePalma and Frank Tripodi served as the Honor Guard and fired a rifle salute to the fallen soldiers. The New York City Police Department Band played “Taps” and the “Star Spangled Banner.”

After the service, hot dogs and soda was served by post members in the parking lot.
