Inwood resident Gwynn Campbell honored by National Council of Negro Women Inc.

Gwynn Campbell, a longtime Inwood resident and community volunteer, was recognized for her civic service by the Nassau County Section of the National Council of Negro Women Inc. at the organization’s annual luncheon at Verdi’s of Long Island on Oct. 19. The council is a nonprofit group that supports women, children and families.

Campbell serves as the interim executive director of the Five Towns Community Center in Lawrence in partnership with Pete Sobol, and is president of the community center’s board. Most recently she organized and hosted the center’s 112th anniversary gala.

Working as executive support to Gerard Walsh, CEO of St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, Campbell has twin daughters who attend Lawrence High School. She ran for the Lawrence Board of Education in 2011 and served in the U.S. Navy Reserve from 1999 to 2007.

Chapter President Edmonia Scott and Simone Nicolas, a school administrator, were also honored.
