An Inwood woman was arrested Thursday for a string of thefts and fraud from several Target stores throughout Nassau County that spanned from Nov. 16 of last year to Feb. 17, police said.

Ebony Washington, 29, of Lawrence Avenue, allegedly conducted an ongoing scheme of fraudulent returns, as she would purchase electronic items such as an XBOX 360 and video games using cash, according to police.

Washington would then go back to the store or go to another Target a short time later and return the items with nothing in the boxes except paper to match the expected weight of that package, police said.

On Thursday, Washington entered the Target store in Farmingdale at about 2:30 p.m. and bought an XBOX 360. She then came back less than 25 minutes later to return it. With the merchandise found to be filled with paper, store employees called the police and she was arrested.

Charged with grand larceny-third degree and petit larceny, Washington was arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
