Woodmere resident Scott Goldberg was among the people who took part in an information session at the Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Centre hosted on Dec. 12 about renovating the Gush Etzion Visitor Center at Kibbutz Kfar Etzion in Israel.

The center is a memorial to the men and women who sacrificed their lives during Israel’s War of Independence in 1947 to protect the Etzion Bloc communities located between Jerusalem and Hebron.

Declared a national heritage project by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in honor of the 100th anniversary of the kibbutz movement, it will soon undergo an extensive renovation and expansion. The ramshackle, antiquated museum will be transformed into a modern, sophisticated interactive center to preserved the Gush Etzion story for posterity.

Proceeds from the event benefited the Jewish National Fund’s campaign to support the restoration project.
