Joyce Oberman Goldfeder, 90

Joyce Oberman Goldfeder, a former Woodmere resident, loved being outdoors. She spent her summers at the beach or by the pool, played golf and tennis and camped in Maine during her younger days.

Goldfeder died of Alzheimer’s at 90, on April 24. She had also lived in Great Neck, Pompano Beach and Delray Beach, Fla., as well as Loveland and Mason, both in Ohio. 

Before becoming ill, she was very active, swimming more than 30 laps a day, up until five years ago. Throughout her illness, she never lost her enthusiastic spirit, unique sense of humor, love of music and her sense of family. 

A graduate of the Woodmere Academy, she attended the University of North Carolina. She was a homemaker for her husband, Sam, and children Billy and Sue Ann. She gave friends golf and tennis lessons and raised funds for charities, especially for firefighters, the developmentally disabled and education.

Her husband Sam, sister Carol Oberman Becker and sisters-in-law Ruth Hillman and Mildred Lieberman predeceased her. She was cremated and will have a memorial service on May 19 at Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home in Loveland.

She is survived by her children, Billy, of Mason, Ohio, and Sue Ann, of Suwanee, Georgia; her five grandchildren, Amy Malich, Dani Reiss, Brian Goldfeder and Sean and James Powers; and her six great grandchildren, Henry and Camden Malich, Vada and Shai Reiss and Harper and Holly Goldfeder. 

Those wishing to honor her memory are asked to donate to Annandale Village, which provides progressive life assistance to adults with developmental disabilities and acquired brain injuries, where Sue Ann has lived for many years, or the Firefighter Cancer Support Network, which pairs firefighters who have survived occupational cancer with those just diagnosed.
