Students named class of 2016 valedictorian and salutatorian

Justin Glickman is the valedictorian for this year’s graduating class of the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns And Rockaway (HAFTR) High School, with Justin Lish being named salutatorian. Both live in Woodmere. Glickman’s grade average is 99.02 and Lish is not far behind at 98.86.

Captain of the College Bowl, math, volleyball and softball teams, Glickman conducted scientific research at the Garcia Center at Stony Brook University, served as editor-in-chief of the school’s Spanish newspaper, was president of Spanish Honor Roll and member of Hebrew National Honor Society.

He tutored students in the Five Towns, was named Student of the Year and is an Advanced Placement scholar with honors. He will attend the City University of New York’s William E. Macaulay Honors College and major in mechanical engineering.

A regional finalist in the prestigious Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology, a gold medal winner and finalist at the International Sustainable World Engineering and Environment Project Olympiad, Lish is a National Merit scholar, earned highest honors with distinction at the Long Island Science Congress-Senior Division, took third place at the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair, served as president of HAFTR’s Science Research Institute and debate team captain.

He was accepted into the Life Sciences and Management Program at the University of Pennsylvania and is planning on majoring in finance and biological basis of behavior.
